Ultra Trail 102 km – Val Rendena, nestled between the Brenta Dolomites and Adamello

100 kilometres. 5,000 metres of elevation gain. A journey through Val Rendena, the Brenta Dolomites and Adamello. A dream that begins in the heart of Pinzolo and, kilometre after kilometre, takes participants on a journey through some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Brenta Dolomites, within the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. It will not simply be a long race. It will be a journey through small mountain villages, forests, mountain huts, high-altitude pastures, alpine lakes and panoramic trails. A route designed to experience trail running in all its forms: long enough to challenge both legs and mind, yet technically accessible even for those taking on the 100 km distance for the first time. The mountain will always be the protagonist. And every section of the route will have its own story to tell. From Pinzolo to Val Genova: the first kilometres The race starts in the heart of Pinzolo, with all the excitement and adrenaline that accompany every great adventure. The first 30 kilometres will be different from the rest of the experience: a continuous succession of ups and downs along the valley-floor trails, passing through the small villages that characterise Val Rendena. After just over 2 kilometres, the route enters Val Genova, one of the best-known and most fascinating areas of the region, dominated by the roar of the spectacular Nardis Waterfalls. From here, the route continues along the Caderzone Sentieri della Salute, crossing forests and trails that lead the athletes towards Spiazzo, where a water refreshment point will be available. An underpass allows the athletes to cross the main road and immediately return to nature, following new single tracks and a continuous succession of ups and downs. The race then continues towards Massimeno, where, around km 25, the 2nd refreshment station will be located. This is where the route begins to change character. After just over 500 metres, having left the village behind, the trail enters the forest and begins the first real climb of the day: 7 kilometres and approximately 650 metres of elevation gain. The rhythm will change, running will give way to concentration, and the forest will accompany the athletes towards Malga Bandalors. Here the trail emerges from the trees and the mountain opens up before their eyes. A vast meadow, the silence of the mountain hut and the chance to recover some energy before setting off again. This will be the first true taste of the high mountains. The route then returns to the forest for another climb of approximately 1.5 kilometres and 230 metres of elevation gain, reaching an altitude of 1,830 metres. As the athletes leave the forest, Malga Movlina appears. From here begins one of the first great panoramic moments of the race: the trail opens onto a spectacular ridge, from which the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites fill the horizon. And just when the mountain seems to demand another effort, the route reaches Madonnina, where the first major descent begins. Lake Valagola: the mountains reflected in the water At around 1,600 metres above sea level, the lake appears after the first challenging kilometres of the race as the perfect place to slow down for a moment, breathe and let the landscape take over. The 3rd refreshment station will be located here, before the route continues towards the valley. From the lake, the trail continues gently downhill along a pleasant and runnable section until reaching Brenta Bassa, at around 1,200 metres above sea level. But it will only be a brief respite. Ahead, a long natural amphitheatre of trees marks the entrance to the climb towards Brenta Alta: another 7 kilometres and approximately 600 metres of elevation gain. A long climb to be tackled patiently, knowing that the race is still young but that the mountain has already begun to make its demands. Towards Rifugio Casinei and Graffer Once Brenta Alta is reached, the route finally offers a little breathing space. A pleasant undulating section, initially slightly uphill, leads the athletes towards Rifugio Casinei, where the 4th refreshment station will be located. From here, the trail descends again towards the Vallesinella Waterfalls. The water, the forest and the sound of the waterfalls will accompany the descent, but this will only be an apparent respite. Because shortly afterwards comes one of the most important moments of the entire race. In the Vallesinella Alta area, at around 1,700 metres above sea level, the climb towards Graffer begins. Over approximately 4.5 kilometres, the trail takes the athletes up to 2,250 metres above sea level. This is where the route reaches its highest point. This is where the landscape changes completely. Graffer will be one of the defining sections of the Ultra 100 km: a climb to be tackled with determination, metre after metre, until the high mountains are conquered. At the top, at the 5th refreshment station and aid station, located at Rifugio Boch, athletes will be able to stop, recover their energy and look around. From up there, the mountains will no longer simply be a backdrop. They will be everywhere. After Graffer, a long single-track descent begins, approximately 4 kilometres immersed in nature, towards Malga Vagliana. The route then continues towards Vaglianella and onwards to Fortini, at the foot of the Grostè chairlift, where the 6th refreshment station will be located at around 1,700 metres above sea level. From the Brenta Dolomites to Adamello At Fortini, the race changes character once again. After crossing the bridge, the athletes enter a new valley and begin their journey towards the Adamello area. Ahead lie approximately 5 kilometres and 200 metres of elevation gain before reaching Lake Malghette, one of the most beautiful corners of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. The trail follows the lakeshore along an undulating section, alternating short climbs and descents, until reaching the Rifugio Pradalago. This will be the 7th refreshment station. At this point, however, the race has entered its most delicate phase. The legs will already have covered many kilometres and the accumulated fatigue will begin to make itself felt. But this is precisely where one of the most anticipated and demanding challenges of the Ultra 100 km awaits. The challenge within the challenge: 3Tre Here begins the challenge within the challenge. A section introduced into the route in 2026 and never before tackled as part of an Ultra Trail race, designed to push athletes beyond their limits and deliver one of the most unique experiences of the entire journey. The route will follow the legendary 3Tre ski slope in reverse, a historic venue of the Alpine Ski World Cup. This time, however, there will be no ski race. There will be legs. And the mountain. Approximately 400 metres of vertical elevation gain are concentrated into a short but extremely demanding climb, with gradients that reach and exceed 28%. This will be one of those sections where running becomes almost impossible. Every step will carry a different weight. Here, trained legs alone will not be enough: athletes will need mental strength, determination and the ability to keep pushing when fatigue starts telling them to stop. It will be like climbing a legend. Lake Ritorto and the final kilometres Once the summit is conquered, the mountain will once again reward the athletes with breathtaking scenery. The route leads towards Lake Ritorto, a magnificent body of water nestled among the Dolomites, before beginning the long descent towards the valley. The route heads towards Malga Ritorto, where the 8th refreshment station will be located. From here, the course joins the route of the 50 km Ultra Trail. At this point, after dozens of kilometres in the legs, the finish line will finally begin to feel close. But there will still be a few kilometres to go. The descent will lead the athletes towards Pinzolo, and along the route there will be the 9th and final refreshment station, ready to provide that last boost of energy needed to tackle the finish. Just over 7 kilometres will now separate fatigue from glory. Seven kilometres to turn every step taken in the mountains into a memory. Seven kilometres to leave behind the climbs, the heat, the cold, the fatigue, the doubts and all those moments when reaching the finish seemed impossible. Then, finally, Pinzolo. The sound of the crowd. The emotion of the finish line. The awareness of having crossed an extraordinary part of the Brenta Dolomites and Adamello. And above all, the certainty of having completed not simply a race, but a true journey through the mountains. 102 kilometres. 5,000 metres of elevation gain. A mountain of emotions. A challenge to experience. An achievement to remember.
