40 km Marathon Route – Featuring the Vallesinella Waterfalls

The 40 km Marathon Route is a true journey through some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Brenta Dolomites. A long and exciting route suitable for everyone, it winds through forests, mountain huts, high-altitude meadows, panoramic trails and some of the most iconic locations in the Trentino mountains. The start is in the heart of Pinzolo. After just over 500 metres, the route leaves the town and enters the forest, beginning the first major climb of the day: 7 km and 650 metres of elevation gain. The trail winds through the beautiful woodland of the Brenta Dolomites, offering a cool and immersive experience surrounded by nature. The climb leads to Malga Bandalors, where the forest gives way to a wide open meadow and beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Here you will find the 1st refreshment station, an ideal place to take a break and enjoy the atmosphere of the mountain pastures. The route then continues through the forest, with a climb of approximately 1.5 km and 230 metres of elevation gain, reaching an altitude of 1,830 metres. As you leave the forest, Malga Movlina can be seen on the right. From here, the landscape changes once again: the trail opens onto a spectacular panoramic ridge, offering breathtaking views of the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites. The route continues to Madonnina, where the first major descent of the day begins. It is time to let the mountains guide you towards one of the most enchanting places along the entire route: Lake Valagola. A gently descending road leads you to the lake, reached at km 11, at an altitude of approximately 1,600 metres, where you will find the 2nd refreshment station. From the lake, the route continues gently downhill along a pleasant and accessible section, reaching Brenta Bassa at km 15, at approximately 1,200 metres above sea level. Here, you will be welcomed by a magnificent natural amphitheatre of trees, which frames the long climb towards Brenta Alta: 7 km and 600 metres of elevation gain. Once you reach Brenta Alta, the route offers a chance to catch your breath with a pleasant undulating section, initially slightly uphill, leading towards Rifugio Casinei. At km 23, you will find the 3rd refreshment station. From here begins one of the most spectacular and distinctive sections of the 40 km Marathon. The trail descends through the forest towards the Vallesinella Waterfalls, which you will catch glimpses of on your left along the way. The sound of the water, the freshness of the forest and the beauty of the natural surroundings accompany you through this section, exclusive to the Marathon route, before it rejoins the other courses. After passing the waterfalls, the route tackles the last short climb of the day, towards Circina, gradually leading you towards Mavignola. At 7.5 km from the finish, you will find the final refreshment station, the perfect place to take a break before the last kilometres. From here, the route heads back towards Pinzolo. A wide trail with a gentle and constant descent takes you through the final landscapes of the day, until you reach the town centre. The final steps lead you to Pinzolo Square, where the warmth of the crowd awaits you, together with the satisfaction of having experienced an unforgettable journey through forests, mountain huts, lakes, waterfalls and high-altitude panoramas in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites.
