71 km Ultra Trail – From the Brenta Dolomites to Adamello

71 km through the Brenta Dolomites and Adamello, among forests, mountain huts, alpine lakes, panoramic trails and some of the most spectacular places in the Trentino mountains. A long, exciting and surprising journey, designed for those who want to experience trail running in all its forms. A spectacular and technically accessible route, capable of testing both legs and mind without ever losing sight of what makes trail running a true experience: the beauty of the mountains. The start is in the heart of Pinzolo, but from there on, the trails, forests and great peaks of the Brenta Dolomites will become your travelling companions. From Pinzolo to the Brenta Dolomites The race starts in Pinzolo. After just over 500 metres, the route leaves the town and enters the forest. Here begins the first major climb of the day: 7 kilometres and approximately 650 metres of elevation gain. The trail climbs through the enchanting woodland of the Brenta Dolomites, in a cool and peaceful environment where the sound of running gradually gives way to the sounds of nature. The climb leads to Malga Bandalors. Here, the forest suddenly opens up and a wide meadow appears before the athletes, offering a first glimpse of the authentic atmosphere of the high mountains. The 1st refreshment station will be located at Malga Bandalors. It will be an important point to refuel, but also a chance to pause for a moment and take in the scenery before setting off again. The route then returns to the forest for another climb of approximately 1.5 kilometres and 230 metres of elevation gain, reaching an altitude of 1,830 metres. As you leave the forest, Malga Movlina appears on the right. From here, the panorama changes once again. The trail opens onto a spectacular panoramic ridge, offering breathtaking views of the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites. This will be one of those moments when it is worth looking up and taking it all in. The route then reaches Madonnina, where the first major descent of the day begins. Lake Valagola The mountain now leads the athletes towards one of the most spectacular places along the entire route: Lake Valagola. The lake will be a special moment of the course: a place where the fatigue of the first kilometres meets the tranquillity of the water and the surrounding mountains. The 2nd refreshment station will be located here, before continuing the descent towards the valley. From the lake, the route continues along a pleasant and runnable section until reaching Brenta Bassa, at km 15, at approximately 1,200 metres above sea level. The respite, however, will be brief. Ahead, a magnificent natural amphitheatre of trees will mark the beginning of the long climb towards Brenta Alta: 7 kilometres and approximately 600 metres of elevation gain. A climb to be tackled with rhythm and patience, because the race will still be long and the mountain will still have much to ask of you. Towards Rifugio Casinei Once Brenta Alta is reached, the route finally offers some relief. A pleasant undulating section, initially slightly uphill, will lead the athletes towards Rifugio Casinei, where the 3rd refreshment station will be located at km 23. This will be an important stop to refuel and prepare for the most spectacular part of the race. From here, the trail descends again towards the Vallesinella Waterfalls, which can be glimpsed on the left during the descent. The sound of the water will accompany the athletes through the forest, offering a few moments of tranquillity before one of the most demanding climbs of the entire route. Because ahead lies Graffer – the highest point of the race. At km 24, in the Vallesinella Alta area, at approximately 1,700 metres above sea level, the climb begins. Over approximately 4.5 kilometres, the trail rises to an altitude of 2,250 metres. This will be one of the sections that stays longest in the athletes’ memories. A few hundred metres from the summit, at Rifugio Boch, the 4th refreshment station will be located. A special place to stop, recover your energy and, for a few moments, look around. At this altitude, the mountain reveals all its grandeur. After passing Graffer, a long and spectacular single-track descent begins. Approximately 4 kilometres immersed in nature will take the athletes to Malga Vagliana. The route then continues towards Vaglianella and on to Fortini, at the foot of the Grostè chairlift. Here, at km 35, at approximately 1,700 metres above sea level, the 5th refreshment station will be located. Fortini will also mark another change in the landscape. From the Brenta Dolomites to Adamello After crossing the bridge, the route enters a new valley and begins the journey towards Adamello. Ahead lie approximately 5 kilometres and 200 metres of elevation gain before reaching Lake Malghette, one of the most beautiful corners of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. The trail reaches the lake and follows its shoreline along an undulating section, alternating short climbs and descents. This will be a section where the accumulated fatigue begins to make itself felt, but where the landscape continues to provide new energy. The route then continues towards Rifugio Pradalago, where the 6th refreshment station will be located at km 45. This will be a crucial point in the race: it will be time to refuel, recover your strength and, above all, prepare for one of the toughest and most distinctive challenges of the entire route. The Challenge Within the Challenge: 3Tre This is where the challenge within the challenge begins. Never before tackled by an Ultra Trail race, this section is designed for those who want to push beyond their limits and experience the purest essence of high-altitude trail running. The route will follow the legendary 3Tre ski slope in reverse, the historic stage of the Alpine Ski World Cup. This time, however, there will be no skis. There will be legs. And the mountain. It will be a short but extremely demanding climb, with approximately 400 metres of vertical elevation gain concentrated in a section where gradients will reach and exceed 28%. Here, every step will be an achievement. Here, running will not always be possible. Here, you will need strength, determination and mental resilience. It will be like climbing a legend. Towards Lake Ritorto and the return to Pinzolo Once the summit has been conquered, the mountain will once again reward the athletes with breathtaking landscapes and emotions. The route will follow the shores of Lake Ritorto, a beautiful body of water nestled among the Dolomites. It will be a moment to experience with your eyes up, because after so much effort, the landscape will almost feel like a reward. Then the long descent towards the valley begins, heading towards Malga Ritorto, where the 7th refreshment station will be located. From here, the route joins the course of the 50 km Ultra Trail. At this point, the final 10 kilometres remain. Ten kilometres separating fatigue from glory, the mountains from the finish line, the adventure from the final sense of achievement. The descent leads the athletes back towards Pinzolo. Every step is now a step closer to the finish. Every climb is behind you. Every kilometre covered throughout the day will have left something behind: the fatigue, the views, the silence of the forests, the sound of the water, the peaks, the lakes and all those moments when the mountain asked you to keep going. Then comes Pinzolo. The warmth of the crowd. The emotion of the finish line. The awareness of having crossed some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Brenta Dolomites and Adamello. And the certainty of having completed something that, over 71 kilometres, was much more than a race. 71 km. A mountain of emotions. A challenge to experience. An achievement to remember.
